MMA Tips: Transition from Side Control to Full Mount
Side control is a very effect position to be in when ground fighting but what if you want to transition up into a full mount to give yourself the advantage over your opponent?
This is a great drill that can be practiced with your students or partners and teaches some good mechanics about how to transition easier. When you are in side control, you are going to secure your arm around your opponent’s head, lay one leg flat on the floor along side them and then that will let you swing your other leg over, essentially stepping over them, and then rolling up into a full mount position.
When practicing this drill it’s often a good idea to give a little bit of resistance so that your partner can learn to handle the struggle because this is a move that will take some work and will not come easily to you in a fight.
